Mullion Creek / Ophir

Mullion Creek is a short drive from Orange as you head towards the Burrendong Dam. The welcoming village brims with community pride with residents working together on projects such as beautifying the local park and church area, community hall and local school grounds.

Ophir located near Mullion Creek is the scene of Australia’s first payable goldfield, discovered in 1851. Set amongst the rugged hills and streams, Ophir Reserve is a great place to experience fossicking, gold panning, fishing, bushwalking and has excellent picnic grounds

Hundreds of relics and historic sites relating to mining dating back to 1851 can be found within the boundaries of this 560 hectare reserve. Evidence of old alluvial, reef and deep lead mines is still very visable for the visitor who may wish to explore the area.
